Webspace

This is a list of all of the free webspace providers that are known to me.  Included is a link to them and a brief explination of what each one includes.   Also included is a ranking.  This ranking is based on my opinion and is based on a scale of five, five being the best and 1 the worst.  You may think different.   If so feel free to contact me.  Your feedback is important.

50megs.com rating:4-  This is a reliable free Web space provider that generously offers you 50 megabytes of space, in exchange for displaying their  banner. Your URL here will be http://www.50megs.com/yourusername. You may upload through ftp or they also offer an easy-to-use online editor that allows you to create Web pages, even if you are a begginer when it comes to HTML. Note: no adult or warez sites allowed.

Angelfire rating: 3- this free provider offers only five megs of space.  I am not sure of the advertising they use.  They do give you clip art and they have a high tolerance level when it comes to page content.   I have seen many illegal pages being run on this server.  the url that you get is a long and drawn out one.  I would reccomend using a redirection service with this server.

Channel21.com rating: 3.5- A fairly new provider offering you 12 megabytes of space for your personal or business Web site. For beginners, there's an easy "point and click" utility for building your Web site. There's also an "Expert Builder" that allows more experienced users to create their own HTML coding. Note: no spamming.

Crosswinds - This site offers free ad-free personal Web pages, with "unlimited space," free E-mail and other goodies, like free Majordomo mailing lists. Free Web space for businesses is also available, although for these
types of sites, there's a 25-megabyte limit and you must display a banner on your main page, "above the fold." You may upload your page via FTP or with their upload service that you access through your browser. No porn, "warez" (pirated material) or
spamming allowed.

Cybertown rating: 4.5- for those of you who already have Web site, join cybertown to create your own 3D virtual reality home on the Web. Just sign up (it's free to register) and you'll get your own completely customizable virtual reality home, complete with personal chat, a message board and more utilities. Once you've set up your virtual home, you can invite your friends over to hang out and chat. There's always something new and interesting going on at this massive site.

Delphi rating: 2.5- known for its free message boards, Delphi is now offering a primitive free Web page service. The "Personal Home Page Builder," makes this service  appealing to new Web authors. However the builder may seem limiting to advanced users. The online builder is easy to use; just fill in the forms to create your page. You must display their banner and you may not display more than four image files at one time on your site.  Reccomended for beginners

FortuneCity.com - Stake your claim at this major free Web space provider that uses a city theme. Some people will
probably find this concept appealing; others are annoyed by it, judging from our feedback. Fortune City.com offers 20 megs of
space and they've added subdirectory support, making it easier to manage your files.

MyFamily.com rating: 3-   family based, free service offers an easy-to-set-up family Web site package that lets you share family news and photos and it
features an online calendar, a chat room and more. Your family Web site here can be private and password-protected. If you sign
up now, you'll be eligible for a family trip to Disney World and other prizes.

NAMEzero - We've had a number of visitors ask us if there is a free Web space provider around that offers you your own domain(www.YourName.com). Unfortunately, there's no getting around the InterNIC's fees. But this new ad-supported service, NAMEzero, is now accepting applications for a free service that will offer you your own domain and "personal portal."
(International availability).

Qwikpages rating: 4- This is a fairly new service that offers you a  100 megabyte Web site, along with your own free E-mail address without much hassle. You edit and upload pages here through their online "Qwik Builder" utility, which is easy to use. No adult sites permitted.

Stas.Net rating: 4- as one of the many new free Web space providers stas.net offers "unlimited" space and bandwidth for personal or commercial Web sites. They also offer other utilities, such as a guestbook, a message board, a search engine and much more. This ad-supported service displays their banner at the top of members' pages.

Tripod rating: 4.5- this free webspace provider gives you 11 megs of space in exchange for a pop up on each of your pages.  They support frontpage 98 and also have their own online editor.  They have a web page creator for beginners.  Their server is generally fast.  The address given to you is https://members.tripod.com/yourusername.  You may have unlimited hits.  Your content must fit their rules or it will be removed, sometimes without notice.

Virtual Avenue - Here, you get "unlimited" traffic and E-mail forwarding, as well as a true FTP account. Virtual Avenue also offers you 20 megs of space. You also get CGI access from your own directory. There's a good FAQ to get you started. The only catch here is that you must display their pop-up banner.

Webjump 4.5- This provider offers 25 megs of space in exchange for an advertisement bar on top of your page.  This is not a banner.   They do not have an online editor.  You will have to upload your page, either through ftp or Frontpage.   They support Frontpage 98.  the address given is http://yourusername.webjump.com.  They do host domain names.  This is also free, however you will still have to pay the InterNic charges.

Zy.com - Extremely fast Web hosting service and free graphics provider, Zy.com offers users a "trial" account that gives you four Web pages, with 10 megabytes of storage space, and a choice of up to 10 template design styles. It's fairly easy to create professional-looking pages here and they offer a nice variety of graphics for use on your pages. Your Web site address
here will be: www.ZyWorld.com/(YourSite). Zy.com also offers users a free email service.
